- A plethora of unconfirmed reports had emerged on social media claiming that plans have been finalised for the governor to join the APC.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has cleared the air on reports of his imminent defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
A plethora of unconfirmed reports had emerged on social media claiming that plans have been finalised for the governor to join the APC.
Reacting to the speculations, the governor debunked the reports and denied harbouring any thought or plan of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Saturday in Osogbo, the governor reaffirmed his membership of the PDP and assured his supporters that he remained a member of the PDP and the leader of the party in the state.
The state governor, who described the reports as fake news, stated that he is preoccupied with providing good and impactful governance to the people of the state through the delivery of democracy dividends.
The statement reads, “Governor Adeleke, who restated his preoccupation with the implementation of the administration’s five-point agenda, urged Osun people to ignore fake news, promising more delivery of good governance and democratic dividends.
“I assure the good people of Osun that I remain part and parcel of the PDP family. I am not defecting to any party”.
The Osun State chapter of the PDP had dismissed claims that Governor Ademola Adeleke was involved in any political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, affirmed that Governor Adeleke remains fully committed to PDP and is not part of any coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
This clarification follows reports that Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the PDP, has formed a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to challenge the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.
Bisi also added that the party in Osun State remained united and committed to its goals under the current leadership and had no interest in joining any political alliance or coalition
