- The minister insisted that the Renewed Hope Agenda is yielding results in oil theft reduction, inflation control, and economic stabilisation.
- He added that Tinubu has signed four new tax reform bills expected to boost business and household prosperity from 2026.
The minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Tinubu remains focused on governance despite the activities of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress.
Idris said recent political conversations about the 2027 elections would not affect the federal government’s reform plans.
He said the administration is committed to economic recovery and will not be swayed by opposition tactics.
Since opposition figures aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) last week, both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition have issued statements and responses on future political plans.
Idris said President Tinubu was elected to lead major reforms and has no intention of being distracted by election talk.
“It is important to reaffirm that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains firmly committed to delivering meaningful reforms and real economic growth,” the minister said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Even as we affirm the right of all Nigerians to freely exercise their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of association and of speech — it is also important to underscore that President Tinubu’s administration will not be sidetracked by politicking or political distractions.”
He said the emergence of new political movements was expected, but insisted that the current administration remains focused on its job.
“The clamour in the media about the emergence of a new political ‘coalition’ is understandable, but Nigerians entrusted President Tinubu with a bold and transformative mandate,” Idris said.
He added that the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already recording progress across different sectors.
According to him, oil theft has reduced, investor confidence is improving, inflation is slowing down, and the naira is stabilising.
He said several government programmes are now reaching citizens directly, including student loans, access to consumer credit, and conversion support for CNG vehicles.
The minister also mentioned new infrastructure projects and welfare schemes targeted at households and small businesses.
He said the president recently signed four tax reform laws expected to improve the country’s fiscal outlook from 2026.
“Two weeks ago, the President signed four groundbreaking tax reform bills into law, marking one of the most ambitious fiscal overhauls in Nigeria’s history,” he said.
He added that the agricultural sector is also receiving major support through a new mechanisation initiative launched under the Renewed Hope programme.
“This is just one of several high-impact agricultural mechanisation programmes being undertaken to guarantee food security,” Idris said.
He accused opposition elements of trying to divert attention from the administration’s achievements by pushing partisan narratives.
