  • He described local councils as the closest tier of government, essential for service delivery and development.

The governor of Lagos state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appealed to youths in the state to reject violence during the local government elections.

The LGA elections will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Sanwo-Olu also implored political stakeholders, candidates and party agents to maintain order and adhere to the principles of law and fairness.

He encouraged eligible voters to come out en masse, stating that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission had assured him of its preparedness.

“The local government is the closest tier of government to the people and plays a vital role in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development,he said.”

He noted that the election provides a platform for Lagosians to choose local representatives who would serve their interests.

“The election offers Lagosians an opportunity to shape the leadership of their local councils by voting for Chairmen and Councilors who will represent their interests and drive development at the community level,” he said.

“This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility; it is your right.

“I urge every registered voter to go out peacefully tomorrow, cast your vote, and be a part of the democratic process that strengthens our communities and our state.”

Sanwo-Olu also disclosed that security agencies had been directed to deploy personnel strategically to ensure a peaceful electoral exercise.

“To ensure a safe, orderly, and credible election, I have directed that security agencies be strategically deployed across all polling units and communities,” he said.

“Law enforcement officials will be present to protect voters, electoral officials, and election materials.”
