- Dare says ADC seeks political gain by criticising Buhari’s burial, calling their action shameless and attention-seeking.
- The presidency accuses ADC of politicising Buhari’s death while Nigerians mourn with dignity and national unity.
The presidency has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of exploiting the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political gain.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr Sunday Dare, issued the statement on Saturday.
Dare condemned what he described as an “obnoxious statement” from the ADC over the burial of the late President Buhari.
He described the ADC’s reaction as a “laughable tantrum” and “manufactured outrage” aimed at gaining cheap political relevance.
He said, “Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government.
“They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance.”
Dare dismissed the party’s accusations against President Tinubu’s administration as dishonest and an insult to Nigerians mourning Buhari.
He stated, “It is an insult to millions of Nigerians who genuinely mourn the loss of a statesman, and who watched the State Burial accorded Buhari with solemn respect and dignity.”
The presidential aide said the ADC was engaging in “utterly shameless conduct,” citing what he called the “choreographed arrival” of some opposition figures in Daura.
He said, “A party still grappling with an identity crisis presumes lecturing the President of the Federal Republic on governance, decorum, and public accountability.
“How utterly ridiculous.”
Dare added that ADC’s pattern of behaviour shows desperation and irrelevance in Nigeria’s political space.
He said, “This is not the first time the ADC, in its pitiful, stuttering attempts at reinvention, has embarrassed itself with hollow, attention-seeking criticisms and press releases.”
He said the Tinubu administration was focused on results, not popularity stunts.
According to him, “The presidency is neither desperate nor seeking cheap popularity. Our growing list of achievements speaks louder than the noisy irrelevance of groups like the ADC.”
Dare listed the achievements of the Tinubu administration as evidence of its performance.
He said, “The naira has been stabilised and exchange rates harmonised. Oil production has increased to 1.7 million barrels per day.
“FAAC allocations have surged by over 60%, enabling 31 states to now pay salaries, pensions, and contractors.
“The naira has also been decoupled from oil market volatility, regaining resilience.”
He added that electricity had been restored to neglected communities while key infrastructure projects were being delivered.
He said, “The Ogbia-Nembe Road, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and Sokoto-Badagry Road are now functional.”
He also mentioned social investment achievements under the Tinubu government.
He said, “About 400,000 students are benefiting from the NELFUND loan scheme. Regional commissions have been established for balanced development.
“The Consumer Credit Scheme has also been launched, laying the foundation for a credit-based economy and combating corruption.”
Dare called on Nigerians to disregard what he termed “political noise from an outfit gasping for attention.”
He said President Tinubu would remain focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He concluded, “We will not dignify the desperate antics of political scavengers.”
