The Lagos State Police Command has rescued two young sisters from the Republic of Benin who were found wandering in Lagos.
The children, identified as 10-year-old Mutiat Fatai and five-year-old Mobubat Fatai, were discovered on July 18 near the Trade Fair Complex.
Traders in the BBA Market area noticed the girls roaming aimlessly and promptly raised an alarm to alert the authorities.
The girls, described as dark-skinned and Yoruba-speaking, could not give clear details about their home or where they were heading.
Following a distress call, police officers responded quickly and took the minors into protective custody for safety and further investigation.
A man later identified as Fatai Yayah visited the police station on July 22 and claimed to be the father of the girls.
Yayah, who resides in Isobe Lagbolugo, Ifonyin, Republic of Benin, confirmed that the children had been missing for days.
After due verification of his identity and relationship with the girls, the police formally reunited them with their father.
The command praised the timely intervention of its officers and the concern shown by members of the community.
“The vigilance of the traders and swift police action made this successful reunion possible,” the police said in a statement.
They urged the public to always report suspicious situations, especially those involving minors, to the nearest police station.
