The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Anambra State chapter, has inaugurated a 23-member campaign council ahead of the November 18 governorship election.

The council, made up of 19 men and four women drawn from various coalition parties, was inaugurated at the ADC secretariat in Awka on Friday.

The ADC governorship candidate, John Nwosu, performed the inauguration and announced that the party’s campaign would commence on August 9.

Nwosu said the council, headed by Ike Iwenofu, consisted of individuals of proven character.

He urged them to prioritise teamwork to achieve victory in the forthcoming election.

He said, “It is important that we avoid gossip, trust ourselves and sort out our differences amicably and in the right quarters.”

“We have no time left, and our work is at the grassroots,” he added.

Nwosu, a technology expert, also advised members of the council to familiarise themselves with the ADC manifesto, which is anchored on seven pillars — security, health, education, economy, environment, market and social welfare.

He said lessons from a recent tour of local government areas revealed that high housing costs, insecurity, and multiple taxation remained major challenges facing residents.

The candidate promised to tackle these issues if elected governor.

In his remarks, Iwenofu said it was a privilege to serve the party at such a level and pledged loyalty and diligence on behalf of the council members.

He appealed to the team to focus on issues during their campaigns, adding that technology would be deployed to drive an effective process.
