- Jibrin said Nigeria’s stability remains the priority, hinting that political realignment ahead of 2027 cannot be ruled out.
- Tinubu and Kwankwaso were described as committed to Nigeria’s unity, regardless of political platforms or public criticisms.
The former lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jibrin, visited the President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.
Jibrin is a known associate of the former governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who ran for president on the NNPP platform.
His visit to the presidential villa follows Kwankwaso’s recent allegation that the south is being favoured in infrastructural development.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Jibrin said the conversation centred around national unity, progress, and the future of Nigeria.
The closed-door visit comes amid growing speculation of a 2027 political alliance between Kwankwaso and Tinubu.
When asked if his meeting signalled a plan to join the APC, Jibrin neither confirmed nor denied the possibility.
“I do not think it is time for that conversation,” he said.
“But everything is open, and everything is a possibility. The most important thing is the stability of the country and its unity. I believe that when we get to the bridge, we’ll cross it.”
Jibrin holds strong ties to both Tinubu and Kwankwaso, whom he described as political heavyweights with Nigeria’s peace at heart.
“The president is a first-class politician. The national leader of the NNPP is also a thoroughbred politician,” he added.
“I believe both of them are committed to the peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria.”
He also reacted to Kwankwaso’s recent criticism of the Tinubu-led government, urging Nigerians not to blow differences out of proportion.
“Every leader does his best, and it depends on how you want to rate him. You can decide to see the cup half full or half empty.”
“But I also believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, and it can always contribute to deepening the discourse,” he added.
