- ADC said ₦712bn for airport rehabilitation is unjustifiable while public universities continue to struggle with chronic underfunding.
- The party described Nigeria’s healthcare as a luxury only the wealthy can afford under the current administration’s policies.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s plan to spend over ₦712bn on the renovation of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Sunday by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
The ADC described the project as a waste of public resources, stressing that it shows the government is out of touch with the realities Nigerians are facing.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) strongly rejects the shocking ₦712 billion airport renovation plan announced by the Tinubu government, calling it yet another clear example of careless spending and lack of concern for the people.
“The party said the decision shows just how disconnected the APC-led government has become from the real struggles that ordinary Nigerians face every day,” the statement read.
The ADC argued that allocating ₦712bn to renovate an airport that had already undergone significant upgrades does not make sense when public universities remain poorly funded.
The party added that the same government has left healthcare beyond the reach of the poor while millions of Nigerians have been forced into poverty by its policies.
According to the ADC, what the aviation sector requires is not another luxurious terminal but consistent maintenance, better efficiency and the development of regional airports to strengthen connectivity across the country.
