- Yar’Adua criticised media outlets for spreading false reports of his defection, describing them as deliberate attempts to mislead Nigerians.
- The Katsina senator clarified that political association should not be assumed simply because others bear the Yar’Adua family name.
The senator representing Katsina central, Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, has dismissed rumours that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yar’Adua, in a statement on Sunday, described the speculation as mischievous and insisted he remains firmly rooted in the ruling party.
He said suggestions of his defection were nothing more than false narratives aimed at misleading Nigerians.
“I wish to categorically reaffirm my unwavering commitment and support for the All Progressives Congress,” the lawmaker declared.
“I urge the press to disregard any speculative headlines suggesting my defection from the party.”
Yar’Adua also emphasised that sharing the Yar’Adua surname does not automatically translate to political association with him.
“It’s important to clarify that not all persons who bear the Yar’Adua name are politically associated with me,” he added.
The senator accused certain media platforms of deliberately causing confusion by tying his identity to unrelated individuals.
As chairman of the senate committee on army and the Northern Senators Forum, Yar’Adua pledged to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s programmes.
He commended the president for increasing allocations to subnational governments and making investments in roads, agriculture and security recruitment.
“We have witnessed concerted efforts by the president in the past two years to increase allocations to states and local governments, invest in critical infrastructure, and strengthen the security architecture,” he said.
Yar’Adua urged political leaders to rally behind the president so that ongoing reforms would yield practical benefits for citizens.
The senator reaffirmed his commitment to national unity and said he would keep working with APC stakeholders to advance development.
“I remain committed to the APC and will continue working with leaders across the board to ensure the unity, progress, and prosperity of all Nigerians,” he added.
