  • Uguamaye’s ordeal began earlier this year after she made headlines when her TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as “smelling state” went viral.

In a move many have described as an injustice and an attack on freedom of speech, the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has refused to issue a certificate to Corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye”, upon her completion of the one-year mandatory scheme for graduates in the country.

Uguamaye, who served in Lagos State, said the withholding of her certificate is not unconnected to her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government and the State government.

Uguamaye’s ordeal began earlier this year after she made headlines when her TikTok video in which she criticised the Tinubu administration and described Lagos as “smelling state” went viral.

In a recent video, she disclosed that she has had to endure so much persecution, injustice and harassment since her criticism of Tinubu’s government.

She stated that her Local Government Inspector, LGI, refused to clear her for April, despite her being present on the scheduled date.

In a clip on Instagram on Saturday, the corps member claimed she was repeatedly instructed to “go to the back” during the clearance exercise until her file was eventually seized. She also alleged the official refused to attend to her and ordered her to leave.

According to Ms Uguamaye, she was later informed she would not be issued her discharge certificate because she missed the April clearance, a claim she strongly denies.

“I genuinely wish I wasn’t a Lagos State corps member because it’s a waste of my time,” she wrote on social media, adding that she has decided to put the matter behind her.

Meanwhile, the NYSC has yet to respond to the allegations.
