  • The suspects allegedly attacked victims with locally-made pistol, smashing tricycle windshields and inflicting serious injuries before stealing valuables.
  • The commander has described arrests as a significant win against crime, vowing continued security operations across Ogun communities.

The Ogun State Security Network, code-named Amotekun Corps, on Monday arrested five suspects for robbing and assaulting two tricycle riders along the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.

The suspects, four males and one female, popularly referred to as “customs camp boys”, were apprehended at about 2:30 a.m. on Monday.

They are identified as 30-year-old Clement Samuel, 23-year-old Clement Monday, 36-year-old Olabode Yusuf, 34-year-old Sodipo Taiwo, and 22-year-old Ogunsakin Yemisi Opeyemi.

The corps commander, brigadier general Alade Adedigba, confirmed the incident, stating that the arrests were made in Ifo and Ewekoro local government areas following intelligence received on the robbery.

According to him, the victims said they were attacked by the suspects, who allegedly fired a locally-made pistol and smashed their tricycle windshields, causing serious injuries and stealing valuables including mobile phones and cash.

Adedigba said, “They were arrested in the early hours of Monday following a coordinated patrol led by Ifo command coordinator, Amt. Omotunde Dotun.

“The operation, which was triggered by credible intelligence regarding a robbery at Apomu, along Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway, where Messrs Dada Oluwaseun (29) and Oluwajuwonlo Moshood (24) were violently attacked while performing their lawful duties as tricycle operators, led to the arrest of the above-named five suspects in Oke-Lemo in Papalanto and Apomu, in the Ifo and Ewekoro local government areas of Ogun State.”

Recovered items include two sophisticated Samsung and iPhones, N40,000 cash, a locally-made pistol, charms, and a jackknife allegedly used in committing the crime.

Adedigba said all exhibits and case files had been transferred to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

He commended the bravery of the operatives in foiling the robbery and described the arrests as a major win in the fight against crime in the state.

The commander assured residents of continued efforts to maintain security in all communities.
