  • Tanko vowed political strategy will surprise opponents aiming to prevent Obi from contesting in the next election.
  • The movement warned against repeating June 12 scenario that denied MKO Abiola the presidency despite his popularity.

The national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, on Wednesday accused president Bola Tinubu of creating crises in political parties linked to Peter Obi.

In an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria, Tanko alleged that the administration is pursuing what he described as “Operation do not allow Peter Obi have a ticket.”

He insisted that Obi would still secure the ticket of any political party he chooses to contest under.

Tanko said: “This government is very good in creating problems in every political party that Peter Obi’s name has come up.

“We have already accused this particular government of having a third hand in every political party in order to cause chaos within the system.

“Anywhere the name Peter Obi rings a bell, that is where they are interested in making sure that he doesn’t win.

“So, we must protect those who are interested in Peter Obi to ensure he wins because it’s ‘Operation do not allow Peter Obi have a ticket’.”

He stressed that the Peoples Democratic Party, the African Democratic Congress, and the Labour Party are all interested in having Obi as their candidate.

“Our target is that we keep our as together and whenever the time comes we will unleash so that they will not have the idea of what is coming in,” he said.

According to him, Obi remains the most popular presidential candidate in Nigeria and among Nigerians abroad.

“One thing you must know is that the most popular presidential candidate in Nigeria and indeed for Nigerian interest across the world is Peter Obi, there is no doubt about it,” he said.

Tanko warned against a repeat of the June 12 scenario where MKO Abiola, described as the most popular candidate, was denied the presidency.

“This time around we have a presidential candidate that is alive, popular, requested, and needed by the Nigerian youths who have not been so much into politics before but now are interested and give them that opportunity,” he added.
