  • Obi’s endorsement aligns with broader opposition coalition efforts under ADC to challenge President Tinubu in Nigeria’s 2027 elections

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has endorsed African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Justina Azuka in Saturday’s Onitsha North State Constituency by-election.

Obi was spotted in Onitsha wearing an ADC-branded cap while campaigning for Azuka, the widow of the late Labour Party lawmaker who formerly represented the constituency.

Her husband was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, and his body was found at the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.

In a statement on social media, Obi hailed Azuka’s resilience, describing her as “qualified, competent, and committed to public service.” He urged voters to back her, calling it “an investment in competent representation and a collective act of solidarity to ease the pain of her loss.”

The endorsement is part of a wider opposition coalition rallying under the ADC platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The alliance brings together figures from the Labour Party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political groups.
