  • Moro insisted disagreements within PDP are normal political dynamics, not a formal division, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
  • The lawmakerrecalled past ‘new PDP’ split as an example of genuine division recognised under the party’s constitution.

The senator representing Benue south, Abba Moro, has dismissed speculations of a split within the Peoples Democratic Party.

Moro, who is also the senate minority leader, said recent crises in the opposition party were being misinterpreted as signs of division.

He spoke on Wednesday during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.

The PDP has faced internal disputes linked to power struggles and competing interests among its members.

Moro explained that a real division occurs only when a party operates under two parallel leadership structures.

“There is no division in PDP. The problem in PDP is not a division in PDP,” he said.

He cited the example of the ‘new PDP’ era, when the splinter group possessed the full identity and paraphernalia of the party.

“That was a division because both sides had distinct leaderships,” Moro stated.

He stressed that mere disagreements or conflicts among members did not amount to an official division.

“That’s why I keep insisting that PDP is not divided,” he added.

According to him, the current situation reflects “contending tendencies” rather than a structural split.
