Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Sunday Ibigide in Delta State, three years after he went into hiding.
The 36-year-old suspect was apprehended while attempting to distribute 250 blocks of cannabis (skunk) weighing 138 kilograms in his distribution bus.
A statement on Sunday by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said Ibigide had been on the run since March 19, 2022, after being linked to 24.137kg of cannabis and 10 grams of molly.
Ibigide was finally caught on August 10, 2025, alongside an accomplice, Clement Osuya, aged 27.
Enugu cannabis farms raided, 37,500kg destroyed
NDLEA agents, with military and local vigilantes, destroyed 37,500kg of cannabis on 15 hectares in Enugu Ezike, arresting six suspects.
An additional 74.5kg was recovered for prosecution during the operation.
Massive opioids haul seized in Rivers State
At Onne Port, NDLEA recovered 875,000 bottles of codeine syrup worth over ₦6.1 billion and 3.5 million pills of tramadol and benzhexol valued at ₦1.7 billion.
The seizure was conducted jointly with Customs and other security agencies on August 13 and 14.
Lagos mother-son duo caught with “Ghana Loud”
In Lagos, Muyibat Mumuni (52) and Faruk Mumuni (25) were arrested in Mushin with 298 blocks of cannabis weighing 149kg on August 13.
Another suspect, Emmanuel Samuel, was apprehended in Ajah, Lekki, with 8.5kg of Canadian Loud.
Tramadol, cannabis seizures reported across multiple states
NDLEA recovered 432kg of cannabis in Edo State, 92kg in Kano, 128,000 tramadol capsules in Gombe, and 337,800 capsules in Kogi.
Taraba State saw 11,250kg of cannabis destroyed and 29,840 tramadol capsules seized, while Kaduna had 111.1kg of cannabis and 22,640 pills confiscated.
On Lagos–Badagry Highway, 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection were intercepted with the arrest of Akeem Adegun.
NDLEA Chairman hails operatives’ dedication
NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised operatives across Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Edo, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, and Seme Commands.
He urged continued vigilance and adherence to the agency’s balanced approach to drug control.
Agency intensifies War Against Drug Abuse campaign
NDLEA has reached out to traditional rulers, including former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, the Emir of Borgu, Emir of Lafia, and Shehu of Borno.
The agency continues to combine enforcement with public awareness to curb drug abuse nationwide.
