Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has said the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, can’t mount any serious political and electoral challenge in the state.
Taking a parting swipe at the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the governor said both parties are dead in Anambra following the outcome of the by-election in the state.
He spoke on Sunday during an event in the Nanka area of the state to mark the victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the by-elections.
“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it yesterday, Saturday. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo said.
According to him, the ADC opposition coalition wanted to use the by-election in Anambra to test its popularity, but “the people spoke overwhelmingly with over 75%.”
He added: “APGA is our movement.”
Obi, a member of the Labour Party who also aligns with the ADC coalition seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, had campaigned for the ADC candidates and asked his supporters to vote for them.
Recall that APGA wọn the By-election for the Onitsha 1 Constituency as it became vacant after the lawmaker representing the constituency, Justice Azuka, was kidnapped and murdered last month.
His wife, Justina Azuka, had contested the election to replace her husband on the platform of the ADC but she lost to the APGA candidate, Mimih Ifeoma Azikiwe, in a keenly contested race.
After losing the bid to claim her husband’s seat in the state assembly, Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial Zone, Tony Nwoye has appointed her as a legislative aide.
