  • INEC set August 25, 2025, as the date for physical registration at state and local government offices.
  • Registration centres will later be expanded across the country after assessments of security conditions and logistical requirements by the commission.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched its online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commission announced the commencement of the process in a post on its official X handle on Monday.

The electoral body urged eligible Nigerians to begin their registration through the portal www.cvr.inecnigeria.org.

The online portal enables prospective voters to pre-register and schedule appointments for in-person verification at designated centres.

Applicants can provide personal details such as names, dates of birth, residential addresses, and preferred polling units during the online process.

The platform also allows transfers of voting locations, replacement of lost or damaged permanent voter cards, and correction of personal information.

“In-person registration starts August 25, 2025, at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nearest to you,” the commission stated.

INEC explained that the in-person registration would later be extended to other designated centres nationwide, based on security assessments and logistics.

The electoral body stressed that the exercise was open to Nigerians aged 18 years and above, particularly first-time voters.

INEC warned against multiple registrations, saying offenders would face legal consequences if found guilty.

The commission urged eligible citizens to seize the opportunity, noting that voter registration remained vital for inclusive participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

It added that the exercise would last for several months, after which a preliminary register would be published for public scrutiny before the final voters’ list is released.
