- Saraki stressed that registering to vote ensures citizens can influence leadership choices, policy direction, and community development outcomes.
- The former senate president reminded Nigerians not to hand their future to others or outsource responsibility for voting.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged Nigerians across the country to register for continuous voter registration to shape the nation’s future.
The former Kwara state governor detailed his appeal in a post on his X page on Tuesday.
He said in 2023, young Nigerians showed great promise, as nearly 40 per cent of registered voters were between 18 and 34, yet only 26.7 per cent turned out to vote.
“Out of almost 94 million who registered, just about 24 million cast their ballots. That gap speaks to the silence of that demographic when it comes to decision-making, and silence does not build nations,” he said.
“Your vote is your voice. Your ballot is your power. With it, you choose leaders, you shape policies, and you decide the direction of your community, your state, and your country.”l
“In Kwara, the State of Harmony, the call is even clearer. Harmony survives only when everyone plays their part.
“Whether young or old, in town or village, every registration strengthens our common voice, and every vote reinforces our shared destiny.”
Saraki urged citizens to encourage their brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbours to register and participate in elections.
“Do not hand your future to others, and do not outsource your responsibility,” Saraki warned.
“By registering to vote, you too can shape the future. I have gotten mine, go get yours,” he concluded.”
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday that 69,376 prospective voters had pre-registered online within seven hours of the CVR opening.
