- ADC Vanguard deleted a controversial post after attributing critical remarks about President Tinubu’s administration to former governor Nasir El-Rufai.
- El-Rufai stressed he would disown any statement wrongly linked to him since he has platforms to express his genuine views.
Former governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has warned ADC Vanguard against attributing fabricated statements to him.
The ex-governor issued the caution in a post on his X page on Thursday.
He said he would disown such remarks since he had his own platforms to share his views.
“Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions,” El-Rufai wrote.
“I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.”
ADC Vanguard had, in a now-deleted post, quoted El-Rufai as criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The group claimed El-Rufai described Tinubu’s government as “Nigeria’s most corrupt, dishonest government” that “loots with arrogance and lies with confidence.”
It further alleged that “every sector, from the economy to security, has been tainted by fraud, kickbacks and favouritism.”
Following El-Rufai’s rebuttal, ADC Vanguard retracted the post and apologised publicly.
“Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you,” the group wrote on X.
The organisation stressed that it respected El-Rufai’s platforms as the proper channels for his opinions.
ADC Vanguard also pledged to depend only on verified sources in its future communications.
The group thanked El-Rufai for addressing the matter directly and respectfully.
