BREAKING: FG, states, LGs share N2.001tn July revenue

  • Federal, state, and local governments shared N640.610 billion from VAT, with states receiving the largest allocation of N320.305 billion.
  • Oil-producing states received N120.359 billion as 13% derivation revenue, including allocations from statutory, exchange, and mineral sources.

The three tiers of government—federal, state, and local councils—shared a total of N2.001 trillion from the Federation Account for July 2025.

The revenue was distributed during the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting for August, which took place in Abuja.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the distributable sum comprised statutory revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), and exchange difference.

The total distributable revenue included N1.282 trillion from statutory sources, N640.610 billion from VAT, N37.601 billion from EMTL, and N39.745 billion as exchange difference.

The communiqué also revealed that gross revenue for July stood at N3.836 trillion, with deductions for cost of collection put at N152.681 billion.

Transfers, interventions, refunds, and savings accounted for N1.683 trillion out of the gross earnings.

Gross statutory revenue stood at N3.070 trillion, which was lower than the N3.485 trillion recorded in June by N415.108 billion.

For VAT, a total of N687.940 billion was generated in July, representing an increase of N9.775 billion compared with June’s N678.165 billion.

Out of the N2.001 trillion distributable revenue, the federal government received N735.081 billion, while state governments got N660.349 billion.

Local government councils received N485.039 billion, and N120.359 billion was shared as 13% derivation revenue to oil-producing states.

From the N1.282 trillion statutory revenue, the federal government received N613.805 billion, state governments got N311.330 billion, and local councils collected N240.023 billion.

Derivation revenue from statutory sources accounted for N117.714 billion.

For the N640.610 billion VAT pool, the federal government took N96.092 billion, states received N320.305 billion, and local councils collected N224.214 billion.

From EMTL, the federal government received N5.640 billion, states got N18.801 billion, while local councils shared N13.160 billion.

The exchange difference of N39.745 billion was distributed with the federal government taking N19.544 billion, states receiving N9.913 billion, and councils sharing N7.643 billion.

A further N2.643 billion from the exchange difference was paid as derivation revenue to the benefiting states.

The communiqué noted significant increases in Petroleum Profit Tax, Oil and Gas Royalty, EMTL, and excise duty for July.

It added that VAT and import duty rose slightly, while Companies Income Tax and CET levies recorded a drop.
