Enzo Maresca, the Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club, has stepped down from his position.
The club and Maresca parted ways after a string of abysmal results in a turbulent December 2025 that saw the club win just one game out of eight.
Before Maresca’s exit, he had fallen out with the upper echelon of the club as their relationship became strained. His departure is the climax of the friction between them.
The rift between Maresca and the club’s hierarchy was reportedly not unconnected to disagreement on the direction of the club and how it should be managed, especially when it comes to the signing of players.
The coach stunned many, including his backroom staff, after her voiced his displeasure and frustration about the action and behaviour of certain people at the club after their victory against Everton, which is their only win, in December. He said “many people” had made it his “worst 48 hours” since joining the club.
Chelsea confirmed Maresca’s departure from the club in a terse statement on Thursday, following days of speculation regarding his future at the club.
The statement reads: “Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.
During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.
We wish Enzo well for the future”
