Ogun: Tanker driver arrested for killing three persons

One Olatoyosi Abiodun, a truck driver, has been arrested for allegedly killing three persons in an accident in Totoro, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, according to police in the state.

He was arraigned on Friday at Isabo Magistrate court.

The truck driver had rammed into a residential house and killed three of the occupants of the building.

Immediately after the incident, Abiodun ran away from the scene, but he was later arrested and charged to court on a six-count charge, including dangerous driving, causing the death of three persons, causing damage to three other vehicles and others.

According to the police, the driver, who drove a Mack tanker trailer with registration number, Lagos T 1532 LA, had on March 4, 2023, “lost control of the truck and ran into a dwelling house after crushing three other vehicles and subsequently caused the death of three occupants of the house.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the driver was later traced to Ibadan, where he was arrested on March 27 and charged to court.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, has warned drivers to always ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before putting them on the road.

Mba also warned drivers of articulated vehicles to be mindful of other road users in order to avoid unnecessary loss of lives on the roads.
