Five policemen arrested for killing trader in Plateau market

Five policemen have been arrested for killing a trader, Ibuchim Ofezie, at Terminus Market, in Jos, Plateau State capital.

It was gathered that the trader was struck down by a stray bullet shot by one of the policemen who were detailed to arrest illegal tricycle operators using their operations to cause traffic in the area on Monday.

According to PUNCH, a trader, who did not want his name in print, said that the policemen were chasing tricycle operators when one of them opened fire and the bullet hit the victim.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, said the errant policemen had been arrested.

He said, “To ensure that the erring patrol team does not evade justice, the CP has ordered their arrest. The five officers who made up the patrol team have been arrested and are currently being investigated at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Jos.”
