The Lagos State Police Command arraigned Himanshu Joshi, a 28-year-old man of Indian origin, before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in the state’s Yaba area on Friday.

Joshi, a manager at Cash-n-Carry Nigeria Limited, was charged with stealing N32 million from his employer.

On one count of stealing, the defendant was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y. Adefope, who represented A. O. Salawu.

The prosecutor, Magaji Haruna, who was holding a brief for Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the crime between July 2022 and June 2023 at Lenox Mall, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

Magaji said the offence was punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Himanshu Joshi, at the Lenox Mall, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, between July 2022 and June 2023, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal N32m, property of the Cash-n-Carry Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

Although the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, the defense counsel made a plea for bail with a liberal approach.

The magistrate granted the defendant bail at the sum of N3m and scheduled the case for mention on August 10, 2023.

Unfortunately, the defendant was unable to meet the bail terms and was subsequently remanded in prison custody.

It was gathered that Joshi did not have access to his phone which according to him had been seized by his company and did not have access to money to effect his bail.
