- Senator Sumaila urges Governor Yusuf to prioritize the needs of Kano citizens over satisfying former governor Kwankwaso’s interests
- Sumaila emphasizes the importance of inclusive governance, advising Yusuf to serve all Kano people regardless of party affiliation
Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, has urged Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to prioritize the needs of the masses rather than focusing solely on satisfying former governor and mentor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Sumaila advised Governor Yusuf to govern fairly and inclusively, addressing the interests of all Kano citizens, including members of opposition parties.
Reports within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP suggest that Kwankwaso has considerable influence over Yusuf’s administration, allegedly guiding critical policy decisions.
Recently, Aliyu Sani Madakin-Gini, a member of the House of Representatives representing Dala Federal Constituency, who distanced himself from Kwankwaso, claimed that the discord between Yusuf and Kwankwaso is due to disputes over a drug contract and a government-funded scholarship program.
Senator Sumaila warned that Kano citizens would not easily forgive the governor if he fails to serve them effectively.
He emphasized that Yusuf must balance loyalty to his mentor with his commitment to the people, adding that governance must not favour only Kwankwaso or Kwankwasiyya supporters but also NNPP members and those who supported Yusuf’s election.
Sumaila stressed that Governor Yusuf should also protect the rights of APC, PDP, and other party members, regardless of their voting choice in the last election. “This government should serve the rights and interests of all Kano people,” he said.
Meanwhile, a faction of the NNPP’s National Working Committee (NWC) criticized Kwankwaso’s recent visit to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, calling it a “deceptive maneuver.”
Abdulsalam Abdulrazaq, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, claimed that Kwankwaso and his allies no longer represent the party, asserting that the NNPP is focused on “regaining peace and stability.” The NWC cautioned Governor Otti against engaging in the NNPP’s internal matters, attributed to Kwankwaso’s influence.
