Following the incident, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ondo State Command issued a disaster alert when the corps warned against overloading on the part of the ferry transporters in the coastal part of the state.

In a statement by the spokesperson of the corps, Olufemi Omole, the boat mishap which occurred at ldiogba would not have occurred if the boat operator had adhere to the necessary precautions.

“Any boat transporter caught in the act of risking the life of innocent citizens by over-speeding and overloading would be arrested and prosecuted under the law.”
