AK47-wielding herdsmen have killed four members of a family of Tiv extraction at Antsa village, Kwarra District in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State according to NewTelegraph.

It was gathered that the victims were reportedly on their way to the farm when the tragic incident happened.

The incident, which occurred about 10a.m. on Tuesday, triggered renewed tension in the state. Another attack allegedly carried out by the same suspected herdsmen on Tiv farmers occurred at Gada-Biu village in Obi Local Government Area of the state when the farmers were in their farm.

The report revealed that a man, Aondovihi Tuur, was killed while another, Virlumun Atsaga, was missing. More than 20 others were inflicted with machete cuts.

The renewed attacks, coming barely after a cease-fire agreement brokered between the Tiv farmers and the Fulani herdsmen in state, have cast doubt over the sincerity of both the state government and the Federal Government in returning lasting peace in communities ravaged by herdsmen attacks in the state.

A witness, Dennis Utsa, said that the killings at Antsa occurred on Tuesday about 10a.m. as four members of the same family were butchered by the herdsmen.
“As I speak with you, security operatives have been mobilised and are on their way to recover the butchered corpses from the farm where the killings took place to Kadarko town,” the witness said. Denen gave names of the slain Tiv family as Utindi Kyor (father), Shie-Aondo (son), Dedzugwen (son’s wife) and Boyi (grandson).

The Chairman of Mzough U Tiv, Thomas Gar, who spoke with journalists on the resumed killings of Tiv farmers in the state by the suspected Fulani herdsmen, said the four people were killed on their way to farm.

He said: “The young man was going to his farm alongside his wife and child when they were intercepted by the suspected Fulani herdsmen and collected the young man’s phone and forced him to call his father to come so that they will release them. “He called his father to the spot, but the young man, his wife, the child and the father that came were all killed instantly.”

The Nasarawa Mzough U Tiv chairman, however, regretted that since Vice President Yemi Osinbajo visited the state, there appeared to be no peace for the Tiv people of Nasarawa State.
