Neymar, Adrien Rabiot, Timothy Weah, were on target as French champion, Paris Saint-Germain enjoyed smoothest of opening-day wins. Neymar and midfielder Rabiot, fired home on 10 and 35 minutes respectively.

Then Neymar‘s late replacement, USA teenager Timothy Weah, the son of Liberia legend George Weah, completed a night of three left-footed goals from close range.

France’s World Cup main man Kylian Mbappe sat it out, while Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon, 40, enjoyed a comfortable Ligue 1 debut in goal after joining from Juventus.

Yet the emphatic victory was not enough to put PSG top on the first weekend.

Marseille head the table on goal difference, following an historic 4-0 triumph at home to Toulouse.
