Man graduates from same university where he used to work as a gardener

The hearts of some social media users were recently touched by an inspiring post about an old man who used to be a gardener for University of Fort Hare (UFH) and has now graduated with his very own degree.

The new graduate, Lukhanyo Mafu, was tending to UFH’s plants just 7 years before this proud moment. Lukhanyo can now proudly say that he has a Social Science degree under his belt.

A Twitter user shared Lukhanyo’s proud graduation moment with the world, praising his “black excellence”.

Social media users were hugely inspired by the special story of strength and upliftment, reported. Many who saw the post commented on the hardworking nature of the graduate and gushed over the “black excellence” at play.

Some were outraged that the inspiring man was only paid N250 a day when he tended to the university’s gardens.
