The hunt for people who engage in childtrafficking yielded positive in Ebonyi as men of Men of the Ebonyi State Neighbourhood Watch arrested two people.

One Nkiruka Okpara, an indigene of the Ahiazu Mbaise community of Imo State, and one Sunday Chukwuma, who hails from the Isu community in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State were arrested as suspects.

Newsmen exclusively gathered that these two suspects secretly kidnapped a one-year-old baby from the mother, one Chioma Njoku of the Agbebo village, before they were arrested by members of the vigilante group.

A source (name withheld) told our newsmen that the suspects acted as if they wanted to assist Chioma, a single mother, to take care of her baby.

According to a neighbourhood watch official, Uzim Dennis, the suspects hatched the plan in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, adding that the attempt to abduct the baby was facilitated by Chukwuma.

Dennis stated that the arrest was witnessed by the Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Internal Security and Utility (South), Chika Nwagele, adding that the suspects had been handed over to the Ebonyi State Police Command.

Speaking on the incident, the Chairman of the Onicha Local Government Area of, Ebonyi State, Felix Igboke, said it was unfortunate and commended the vigilante group for a job well done.

“In Ebonyi, criminals have no hiding place,” Igboke stated.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Loveth Odah, said the incident had yet to be officially reported at the command headquarters.
