Barrister Inibehe Effiong, human rights lawyer and counsel to the detained convener of ‘Revolution Now’ movement, Omoyele Sowore, has said plans are underway to vacate the Court ruling which directed the Department of State Services, DSS, to keep him for 45 days.
Recall that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court Abuja gave the ruling to enable the DSS conclude its investigation into the allegation of treasonable felony leveled against Sowore.
However, Effiong said Sowore’s legal team had concluded plans to review the decision of the presiding judge, as well as the documents filed before him by the DSS, with a view to persuading the Court to upturn the order itself.
Speaking in an Interview with newsmen on Thursday, the rights lawyer, who is also the National Legal Adviser of African Action Congress (AAC), said they were disappointed by the decision of the judge to have Sowore detained till September 21 going by the facts available in the public domain.
He said, “One of the steps we can take is to get the order vacated. We shall make that application to the court after reviewing its decision as well as the documents filed by the DSS. We do not think Sowore should be kept in security custody for 45 days.
“Frankly, we do not know what facts the DSS presented before the court to be able to obtain the order to detain him for 45 days. But, if the facts are the same as those already in the public domain, then we would want to see if we can persuade the court to reverse its decision.
“As far as we are concerned, the fact in the public domain does not support the actions taken so far by the DSS.”
