The verdict of the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan which tackled and questioned the ruling of the tribunal and failed to declare the appellant or order fresh polls has caused tension and great confusion in the political atmosphere of the state.

WITHIN NIGERIA reported that Adelabu and the APC had filed petition against the declaration of Makinde by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the governorship election in the state.

Recall that the governorship election petition tribunal which sat in Ibadan, in September, upheld the victory of Governor Seyi Makinde at the poll.

Days after the tribunal upheld the victory of Seyi Makinde, a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party at the poll, the appeal court has reversed and questioned the ruling of the tribunal which declared Makinde as rightful winner and ruled in favour of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, November 11.

Inspite of the triumph, the appeal court did not declare Makinde sacked nor order fresh election.

It was gathered from DAILY NIGERIAN that the court ruled in favour of the appellant Adelabu Adebayo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on all counts and upturned the ruling of the election petitions tribunal that upheld Makinde’s victory.

There was also another report credited to Channels TV that the appeal court did not rule in favour in Adebayo Adelabu, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party rather upheld the victory of Seyi Makinde and questioned the tribunal over shallow indept analysis of evidence provided by the appellant.

The non-declaration of Adebayo Adelabu as winner of the election and fresh elections were not ordered to be held have caused confusion in respective camps and several interpretations birthed by interests have surfaced on social media platforms.

Some supporters of the All Progressives Congress have jumped into pool of celebration with arguments that the Governor Seyi Makinde has been sacked from office, others argue that there was no declaration from the court while these supporters of the sitting governor, Seyi Makinde argue that the governor remains in office.

There is no doubt that majority of users are confused and the best interpretation can only come from the courts as one of its major roles as third arms of government. WITHIN NIGERIA hopes the courts clear this doubts and rescue Oyo people from pool of political confusion.
