A Coronavirus patient has died in the US, being the first in the country.

This is the first known death in the US from deadly Covid-19 disease.

The death was confirmed Saturday in Washington state, health officials said as New York Times reported.

“It is a sad day in our state as we learn that a Washingtonian has died from COVID-19. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. We will continue to work toward a day where no one dies from this virus,” Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement Saturday.

“In partnership with the Washington State Department of Health, the Washington State Department of Emergency Management and local and community health partners, we are strengthening our preparedness and response efforts. I am committed to keeping Washingtonians healthy, safe and informed,” he said.

The deceased lived in King County, which includes Seattle, according to the Washington Department of Health, KIRO 7.

According to New York Times, officials have promised to provide more information.

The US has at least 66 cases of coronavirus.

There are 85,406 cases in 60 other countries, with 2,924 deaths.
