Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is in self-isolation, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said on Tuesday.

He is believed to be one of the prominent Aso Rock staff in contact with Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, who tested positive to the COVID-19.

Abba Kyari, chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has tested positive for the virus, leading to suggestions that other members of the federal executive council (FEC) should take precaution.

Only one seat separates Kyari and Osinbajo inside the council chambers where FEC meetings are held.

Akande said his principal is self-isolating in accordance with the “protocols” of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that the confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose to 44 as at 9pm on Tuesday.

Tweeting on his official handle, Akande said: “VP Osinbajo yesterday at the office conducted his meetings via video conferencing, while observing social distancing.

Today, he continues his work from the home office, as he is in self-isolation in accordance with NCDC protocols.”
