Nigeria Center for Disease (Center) on Wednesday March 25, revealed that only 178 people have been tested for coronavirus in the country as of Tuesday March 24.

According to data made available to newsmen, between 10 and 20 persons on the average are tested in the country daily since the confirmation of the first coronavirus case in Nigeria on February 27.

Also there are only five laboratories in NCDC’s molecular laboratory network with the capacity to test for COVID-19 in Nigeria; two of those are in Lagos while Abuja, Edo and Osun have one each,

Here is a breakdown of the coronavirus test conducted in 20 states across the nation and the FCT;

1 Akwa Ibom 1
2 Adamawa 1
3 Bauchi 1
4 Bayelsa 1
5 Cross River 2
6 Delta 1
7 Ebonyi 1
8 Edo 2
9 Ekiti 4
10 Enugu 1
11 FCT 52
12 Kano 2
13 Katsina 2
14 Lagos 88
15 Nasarawa 5
16 Ogun 4
17 Ondo 1
18 Oyo 1
19 Plateau 1
20 Rivers 6
21 Yobe 1
22 TOTAL 178

With less than 500 ventilators across the 36 states and the FCT, Nigeria currently has a total of 51 confirmed cases of coronavirus. 2 of the coronavirus patients have been discharged and 1 death have been recorded so far.

Recall that it was reported earlier that the federal government announced that it is still tracing 4,370 people in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Lai Mohammed who disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday March 26, stated that FG is not getting the support it needs in the fight against coronavirus from Nigerians.

The Minister who insisted that many Nigerians have been making “meaningless criticisms” instead of complying with the stipulated directives to keep themselves safe, pointed out that they’ve had challenges in contact tracing because some Nigerians who flew into the country gave fake telephone numbers and addresses, making it difficult for them to be traced.
