As part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state, the Ekiti state government has placed a ban on all local and traditional festivals in the state.

This was announced by the state coordinator of COVID-19 Task Force Response Team, Prof. Bolaji Aluko.

The state coordinator said traditional festivals were suspended for the rest of the year because of the increasing cases of COVID -19 in the state.

Traditional rulers in towns and villages have been asked to adhere to the new directives as defaulters will be prosecuted by the state government.

In a related story, WITHIN NIGERIA reported that the Ekiti State Government has postponed the reopening date of worship centres earlier scheduled for July 17 to August 14.

Services in worship centres including Mosques and Churches had been suspended since March following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the state Commissioner for Health, Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said the government’s new decision was because leaders of worship centres could not meet the conditions set for reopening.
