The Executive Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi has stated that his administration has not done well in the provision of affordable residential apartments for workers in the state.

This was stated on Monday by Umahi during the ground-breaking ceremony of the national affordable housing programme for workers, held at Ohaozara local government area of the state.

The governor described the initiative as a miracle, due to his administration’s low rating in the housing sector.

“I have never hidden the truth that we have not done well in terms of residential apartments though we have performed commendably in the commercial aspect, the governor was quoted by NAN.

“We had problems with the people handling such initiatives in the state but realised that we needed to be friends and not to quarrel.

“The people handling the housing project at Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu LGA of the state should know that project needs to be expanded.”

Umahi commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for understanding the financial condition of his administration, adding that he is always upset whenever workers are not paid on time.

“You have understood that whatever we agreed to pay in terms of salaries is within our resources and that is why I get upset whenever any worker is not paid at the appropriate time,” he said.
