When actor, filmmaker and cultural icon Richard Mofe-Damijo better known as RMD marked his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife, Jumobi Adegbesan-Damijo, today, the moment resonated far beyond celebration. Their celebration on Monday, December 29, 2025 sparked admiration and curiosity from fans.

In an industry where relationships often burn bright and fade fast, many are asking a simple question of what RMD and Jumobi have done right to last 25 years.

A Love Story Shaped by Life’s Full Circle

RMD & Wife, Jumobi

What many do not know is, before his marriage to Jumobi, RMD had already experienced deep love and devastating loss. He was previously married to May Ellen “MEE” Ezekiel, a journalist and publisher, who passed away in 1996. Her death marked one of the most painful chapters of his life, a loss he has spoken about over the years.

That experience profoundly shaped RMD’s outlook on love, family, and commitment. So when he later found love again with Jumobi, it didn’t come with haste, but rather maturity grounded in intention and a clearer understanding of partnership.

Jumobi Adegbesan was a familiar and admired face on Nigerian television in the 1990s. She was a poised, well-liked presenter whose career was steadily rising. When she married RMD in December 2000, their union brought together two public figures, but their marriage itself was deliberately kept private.

Shortly after their wedding, Jumobi made the conscious decision to step away from full-time broadcasting to focus on family life. It was a sacrifice RMD has repeatedly acknowledged publicly, often describing her as the quiet strength behind their home.

Together, they have raised four children, navigating parenthood alongside demanding careers, public attention, and evolving seasons of life.

RMD’s career spans over four decades, with standout performances in classics such as Out of Bounds, Diamond Ring, Keeping Faith, Chief Daddy and Radio Voice. Beyond Nollywood, he has also served as Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, further cementing his influence in Nigeria’s cultural space.

Yet, off-screen, his most enduring role has been that of a husband and father. That stability, many believe, is anchored by the partnership he shares with Jumobi, which is built on respect rather than performance.

Lessons from 25 Years of Marriage

Lesson One: Respect the Past, Build the Present

RMD never erased his past, and Jumobi never competed with it. Their marriage reflects emotional honesty by acknowledging loss, growth, and life’s complexities while choosing to move forward together with grace.

Lesson Two: Privacy Is Power

Despite RMD’s celebrity status, the Damijos have largely avoided public drama. There are no constant interviews or oversharing. There’s just the occasional, heartfelt moments, usually shared by RMD himself. That restraint has protected their union from unnecessary pressure.

As he does yearly, RMD took to his Instagram page to express joy at their marital milestone. Sharing photos of himself and Jumobi, he boasted:

“25 years na your mate?

Even if na beans, to cook am nor easy o. Oghene is involved if not where we for Dey?

To expanded horizons!.”

Lesson Three: Partnership Over Performance

Their marriage thrives on partnership, not optics. Jumobi’s support during the peak of RMD’s career and RMD’s consistent public appreciation of her sacrifices speaks to a shared vision rather than individual ambition.

25 Years Later, Still Standing

Today, as congratulatory messages pour in from fans, colleagues, and admirers, the Damijos’ silver jubilee stands as more than a personal milestone. It is a reminder that lasting love is intentional and is built on understanding, respect, sacrifice, and growth.

In a world quick to celebrate beginnings, their story celebrates staying.

And at 25 years, RMD and Jumobi Damijo aren’t just still standing, they’re standing strong.
