Nigerian digital creators emerged as the dominant force in Africa’s live-streaming landscape in 2026, occupying the majority of places in the continent’s top 10 streamer rankings and signalling a decisive shift in online entertainment influence toward West Africa.

Industry data compiled from Twitch and Kick rankings show that Nigerian streamers now account for six of Africa’s 10 most-followed live creators, driven by sustained audience engagement, cross-platform visibility and the blending of entertainment, gaming and pop culture.

The rankings reflect a broader transformation in Africa’s streaming ecosystem, where live broadcasting has expanded beyond gaming into comedy, lifestyle commentary, music interactions and celebrity-led content with commercial value.

While South Africa previously dominated Africa’s streaming scene during its early growth phase, momentum has moved steadily toward Nigeria following increased international exposure and the rapid professionalisation of local creators.

Visits by global streaming figures such as Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed to Nigeria between 2024 and 2025 played a role in accelerating global attention, opening African streaming audiences to international viewers and collaborators.

In 2026, streamer rankings across the continent are based on combined follower counts from Twitch and Kick, a method that reflects evolving platform usage and avoids distortions caused by short-term social media virality.

Twitch continues to maintain a strong foothold across West and Southern Africa, while Kick has grown rapidly among emerging creators due to flexible monetisation policies and incentives designed to attract new talent.

Under this combined measurement, Nigerian creators form the largest national bloc among Africa’s elite streamers, represented by Carter Efe, Shank Comics, Enzo, Peller, Ojo and Lord Lamba.

Carter Efe leads the Nigerian contingent with more than 560,000 followers, making him the most-followed Africa-based streamer on Twitch as of 2026.

His content strategy blends street-level humour, celebrity interactions and audience-driven conversations, helping him bridge Nigerian pop culture with global streaming audiences.

Carter Efe’s rise reflects a wider trend in African streaming where personality-led variety content often outperforms single-genre formats such as competitive gaming.

Veteran creator Shank Comics remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable streaming figures, having built his following through comedy-driven live sessions and international collaborations.

He became the first Nigerian streamer to surpass 100,000 followers on Twitch, a milestone that marked Nigeria’s entry into Africa’s top tier of live creators.

His participation in Kai Cenat’s Streamer University and a $10,000 prize won from a MrBeast-hosted challenge further amplified his international visibility and credibility.

Gaming-focused streamer Enzo, also known as Rynenzo, represents a newer generation of Nigerian creators whose growth has been driven by consistency, technical skill and structured content schedules.

Unlike creators who rely heavily on viral moments, Enzo has expanded his audience through regular competitive streams and community-building within the gaming space.

Peller’s presence in the top 10 highlights the strategic role of platform selection in shaping creator success across Africa.

As one of the earliest Nigerian adopters of Kick, Peller benefited from early platform support and later became the platform’s first Nigerian brand ambassador.

His trajectory illustrates how creator-friendly policies on emerging platforms can reshape audience distribution and national representation in continental rankings.

Ojo and Lord Lamba complete Nigeria’s representation in the top 10, reflecting the diversity of formats contributing to the country’s streaming dominance.

Their inclusion underscores the depth of Nigeria’s creator ecosystem, where mid-sized audiences across multiple niches collectively reinforce national visibility.

Despite Nigeria’s numerical dominance, Africa’s top streaming position in 2026 is held by Moroccan creator Ilyas El Maliki.

With more than 847,000 followers, El Maliki remains the continent’s most-followed live streamer, driven by strong engagement across North African and European audiences.

South Africa and Egypt also retain representation in the top 10 through established creators such as Rachel Kay, AliasV and Salma Hassan.

Their continued presence reflects the geographically diverse nature of Africa’s streaming market, even as Nigeria leads in overall volume.

Analysts note that Nigeria’s advantage lies not only in population size but also in early cultural adoption of live digital storytelling.

Affordable mobile internet, youth-driven content consumption and the crossover between music, comedy and online broadcasting have created favourable conditions for streaming growth.

As global platforms increasingly court African audiences, Nigerian creators appear well positioned to sustain their influence, provided infrastructure, regulation and monetisation pathways continue to improve.

The 2026 rankings suggest that Africa’s streaming future will be shaped less by traditional media centres and more by creators who understand community, culture and digital intimacy.

With six Nigerians in the continent’s top 10, the country’s creators have transformed live streaming from a fringe activity into a mainstream digital export.
