Ajara Lasisi, widely known as Aunty Ajara in the Nigerian film industry, has died, her family confirmed on Thursday, February 5, 2026. The veteran actress, who built a devoted following in the Yoruba movie scene for her memorable roles, passed away in the early hours after a courageous but ultimately unsuccessful battle with a prolonged health challenge.

The heartbreaking news was announced by her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, in a video message shared with the public, where he expressed deep sorrow over her passing and thanked well-wishers, colleagues, and fans for their support during her health struggle. He also asked that all fundraising efforts be halted now that she has passed.

In recent weeks, Aunty Ajara’s condition had worsened, prompting public appeals from fellow actors and friends, including Wunmi Toriola and others in the Yoruba film community. Social media clips showed her in hospital receiving intensive care as supporters called for prayers and financial assistance to help sustain her treatment.

Her final months were marked by an outpouring of industry solidarity, with colleagues and fans alike rallying around her in hopes of recovery. Despite the collective efforts, her health deteriorated, and she succumbed to complications related to her long-standing ailment.

The news of her death has triggered widespread mourning across Nollywood and among her many admirers, who have taken to social media to express grief and share memories of her contributions to Nigerian cinema.

Aunty Ajara’s legacy lives on through the numerous films in which she brought characters to life, earning her a special place in the hearts of the audience and the entertainment community.
