From Classroom to Boardroom: Meet ‘Professor Shu’aibu Aliyu’, PTDF’s New Executive Secretary

Professor Shu’aibu Aliyu has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Petroleum Technology Development Fund’s (PTDF) Executive Secretary.


WITHIN NIGERIA learned that President Tinubu appointed Aliyu after Ahmed Galadima Aminu resigned from the position to run for governor of Adamawa State in 2027.

The president expects Prof. Shehu Aliyu to use his depth of expertise to reposition the PTDF for greater effect in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for the oil and gas sector in line with national priorities, according to a statement signed and released by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson.

He was born on April 4, 1963, in Buratai, Borno State

He attended Buratai Primary School in Borno

He attended Government Science Secondary School Bama

He attended College of Advanced Studies, Zaria* (IJMB, 1989)

He earned his BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Maiduguri (1986)

He later obtained his MSc and PhD in Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University (1995-2005)

He also attended the University of Khartoum (2015) where he earned a B.A in history

He is a renowned Nigerian academic, historian, and administrator

He served as Director, Arewa House (2020 – 2024)

He served as a former Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri (2019-2024)

He has been appointed as Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) by President Bola Tinubu

He became an Associate Professor of History, Ahmadu Bello University

His published works include “Islam, Colonialism and Mitigation; A Study of West African Communities in Sudan” (2015) and “Sultans of Sokoto: A Biographical History” (2016)

He was elevated to the position of Professor on April 5, 2025
