‘I am single’: What Bimpe Akintunde said about her marriage crash, growth & starting over

Nollywood actress Bimpe Akintunde has confirmed that her marriage has ended, publicly declaring, “I am single.”

The Yoruba film star, known for her vibrant screen presence and private personal life, shared the update after months of silence, opening up about a difficult period marked by emotional strain, reflection and change.

In her words, the decision to speak now came after deep thought, as she begins a new chapter focused on healing, growth and starting over.

Who is Bimpe Akintunde ‘Wasila Coded’?

Bimpe Akintunde

Bimpe Akintunde is a Nigerian actress, scriptwriter and film producer, widely known in the Yoruba film industry for her versatility and strong screen presence. She rose to fame after starring in Wasila Coded, a role that earned her the nickname she still goes by today.

Beyond acting, she has built a career as a media personality, hosting radio and online talk shows, while also producing her own projects. Some of her recent works include Wasila Coded Reloaded (2022), Maleeka (2022) and The Secret Behind Our Marriage (2023).

Her career has continued to grow in recent years. In October 2024, she received her first international recognition at the Nigeria Canada Celebrities Awards and is currently promoting her debut epic film Moladelewa, set for premiere in Toronto in May 2026.

Away from the screen, she is a mother of two girls, and has occasionally shared glimpses of her family life, including her first daughter’s early steps into acting. She is also a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Akintunde married Yousuph O. Ganiyu in June 2023, a union that quickly drew public attention. The marriage faced scrutiny from the start, particularly because her husband already had other wives. This situation sparked conversations from netizens online and subjected the actress to sustained criticism.

Over time, the relationship remained under public eye, with social media reactions and occasional cryptic posts fuelling speculation about its stability. The marriage eventually ended in May 2026.

“I Am Single”: The Marriage Crash

For months, there had been quiet speculation about her marriage. On May 1, Bimpe Akintunde confirmed it herself.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the actress revealed that her marriage had ended after less than three years, choosing to address it directly rather than let rumours speak for her. She wrote:

“After deep reflection, prayers, and honest conversations with myself and my family, I’ve chosen to speak my truth…”

She explained that the decision to go public did not come easily, but felt necessary after once sharing her happiness with the public.

“I once shared my happiness, and I owe it to myself to share my reality too.”

Without going into specific details about what went wrong, she made it clear that the experience was difficult and life-changing.

“It wasn’t easy, it came with lessons, tears, strength, and growth.”

Then came the line that defined the moment:

“I AM SINGLE.”

Growth, Reflection and Starting Over

Beyond the announcement, her message leaned more toward healing than heartbreak.

Bimpe Akintunde framed the end of her marriage as a turning point, shaped by faith, self-reflection and a conscious decision to move forward. She added:

“I held on to my faith in God… and I’ve embraced my path with grace—choosing peace, healing, and purpose for myself and my children.”

Rather than present herself as a victim, she positioned the moment as one of rebuilding.

“Today, I stand not broken, but rebuilt. Not defeated, but refined…”

Her focus now, she suggested, is on her children, her peace, and a new chapter defined by growth and clarity. The announcement, which came at the start of her birth month, also signalled what she described as a season of reflection, gratitude and new beginnings.

Conclusion

Bimpe Akintunde

With one post, Bimpe Akintunde clarified the speculation of netizens by trying to stay above the conversation online.

Her message was simple: the marriage has ended, and she is moving forward. No long explanations. No public back-and-forth. Just a clear statement and a shift toward what comes next—her children, her peace and a new phase of her life.

For now, she has said what she needed to say: “I am single.”
