OROKI, OYO — Uneasy calm and widespread panic have gripped the Oroki community in Oyo Town today, following a disturbing incident where a scrap metal trader—locally referred to as an “Aboki” or “Iron Condemn” dealer—was intercepted while allegedly transporting an unconscious elderly man in his cart.

The incident comes at a time of heightened anxiety across Oyo State, occurring just days after the traumatic abduction of school pupils and their teachers in a neighboring community.

Intercepted by Residents

According to multiple eyewitness accounts and a viral video circulating heavily on social media platforms, the scrap collector was stopped by suspicious residents along a street in Oroki. Upon inspecting the contents of the heavy-duty pushcart typically used for gathering discarded metals, onlookers made a gruesome discovery.

An elderly man, whose identity remains unconfirmed, was found lying motionless inside the cart. Witnesses at the scene reported that the victim appeared to be entirely unconscious, with some expressing fears that the man may have already passed away.

“The town is on absolute high alert right now,” a local resident who witnessed the gathering crowd told reporters. “With what happened to the schoolchildren just days ago, everyone is on edge. Finding a body or an unconscious man in a scrap cart has pushed people’s fears to the limit.”

The discovery sparked immediate chaos in the area, drawing an angry crowd before local community leaders and security operatives intervened to prevent a potential lynching.

While official statements from the Oyo State Police Command are still being awaited, security sources confirm that suspects have been taken into custody for questioning, and the victim has been rushed to a nearby medical facility to ascertain his clinical state.

Growing Security Concerns

The unsettling event has triggered a wave of warnings across local leadership and community forums, with residents being urged to look out for one another and report any unusual movements.

Community leaders have issued an immediate advisory to all residents:

Maintain heightened vigilance: Be aware of individuals operating under the guise of casual laborers, hawkers, or scrap collectors in residential zones.

Strict parental oversight: Ensure children are supervised at all times, especially in light of the recent school abductions.

Report, don’t react: Authorities are strongly appealing to the public to refrain from jungle justice and instead hand over suspicious individuals to law enforcement.

This is a rapidly developing story. More official updates regarding the health status of the victim and the police investigation will be published as they are confirmed.
