Argentina on Wednesday made history to become the first team to reach the final of the FIFA World Cup twice in a row after beating England in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, inspired the South American team to glory with an exceptional performance that saw him assist the two goals.

Gordon had put the three lions ahead in the 65th minute, but a change in tactic and approach to the game by Thomas Tuchel after the goal saw England retreat and become more defensive.

This gave the Argentine enough time in the world to launch a wave of attack after attack against England. Enzo Fernandez restores parity with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box. Latauro Martinez scored in the 93rd minute to give the Argentine the lead after heading home from close range a beautifully weighted cross from Messi.

England was hoping to reach their first World Cup final since 1966 when they hosted and won the tournament, and for a moment it looked like they were on their way there until Messi and his cohorts snatched victory from the Jaws of defeat.

Argentina will face Spain in the final on Sunday. Spain will be hoping to repeat the success of 2010 in South Africa, which saw them win the tournament for the first time, while Argentina will be seeking to defend the title they won four years ago in Qatar, which will make them the first nation to win the World Cup back-to-back.
