For the past few years, Raheem Okoya has been building a name for himself beyond the family name.
Known professionally as SirRaheem, the son of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya has moved between music, business and other creative interests, attracting attention along the way. His journey has also placed him in a familiar but complicated position of trying to establish his own identity while carrying the weight of a well-known family name.
That chapter took a new turn on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when SirRaheem announced that he would stop putting out new music.
Here are seven things to know about the young Okoya and the journey that brought him to that decision.
1. He is Razaq Okoya’s son
Born Raheem Olasubomi Okoya, SirRaheem is one of the children of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, the founder of Eleganza Group.
His father is one of Nigeria’s prominent industrialists, having built Eleganza into a major business empire with interests spanning manufacturing and other sectors. SirRaheem therefore grew up in a family where business, wealth and entrepreneurship were part of everyday life.
He is also the son of Chief Mrs Shade Okoya, Razaq Okoya’s wife, and has grown up in the public eye largely because of his family background.
SirRaheem was born April 30, 2003 and being a part of the Okoya empire has also given him an early introduction to the world of business. He once revealed that he had been shadowing his father from the age of 13, giving him an early look at how the family business was run.
2. He comes from one of Nigeria’s prominent business families
SirRaheem is a member of the Okoya family, one of Nigeria’s better-known business families, led by his father, Chief Razaq Okoya. He is also an Executive Director of Eleganza Industrial City Limited, one of the companies under the Eleganza Group.
Razaq Okoya is the founder and chairman of Eleganza Group, a Nigerian conglomerate with interests in manufacturing. Through its various companies, Eleganza produces and markets products including household and plastic goods, furniture, electrical appliances and other consumer products.
The businessman allegedly has 26 children with nine different women, including wives and partners. Raheem revealed the figure during a viral interview, where he playfully nicknamed his father a “striker.”He also disclosed that he is number 23 among the 26 children, with the eldest said to be about 60 years old.
While Chief Okoya has reportedly had nine women bear his children, two of his wives are the most widely known and recognised in the public eye.
His senior and first wife, Alhaja Kuburat Olayinka Okoya, has been married to him for more than 50 years, and they share seven children.
Then there is Dr Shade Okoya, his youngest and one of his most prominent wives. The couple got married in May 1999 and have four children together, namely Olamide, Subomi, Oyinlola and Wahab, with Raheem being the youngest.
Over the decades, his other noted marriages and relationships have included Ajoke Okoya, Yetunde Okoya, Jennifer Okoya and Zainab Okoya.
SirRaheem’s mother, Shade Okoya, has also carved out her own place within the family’s business empire. She is the CEO of Eleganza Group and has remained a prominent figure in the company as well as in Lagos’ social circles.
3. Music started as a hobby before becoming a career
SirRaheem did not initially approach music as a conventional career.
In his August 26 statement announcing his exit, he explained that music began as something he did with his friends.
“My career began simply, music was a hobby I made with my boys as a means of bonding and connection before it was anything else,” he said.
What started as a means of having fun and connecting with friends eventually became more serious. By around 2022, SirRaheem had begun releasing music professionally. Over the following years, he put out songs including “Bad Bitch Syndrome,” “Kowope,” “SOWETO” and “TRU$T FU₦D.”
His career also took him to major shows and gave him opportunities to meet or receive recognition from artistes he had admired while growing up.
4. He released his debut project in May 2026
SirRaheem’s decision to leave music came only a few months after he released his first major project.
On May 1, 2026, he released By The Order Of The City, an eight-track debut project that marked an important point in his music journey.
The timing makes his August announcement particularly notable. After spending years developing his career and finally putting out a debut project, SirRaheem was already thinking about stepping away from active music.
A May 2026 interview-style appearance also showed him engaging with questions about his background and the public perception surrounding his career, suggesting that the conversation around his music went beyond just the songs themselves.
5. He owns an ultra-exclusive, luxury bowling club
While pursuing music, SirRaheem was also building a life outside entertainment. He has been associated with the family business and has taken on responsibilities connected to Eleganza Industrial City Limited. His business interests have also extended beyond the Executive Director role.
In January 2026, attention shifted to one of those ventures when he unveiled an upscale, members-only bowling club in Lagos.
Reports on the facility said annual membership cost $5,000, with SirRaheem describing it as a space aimed at wealthy people, families and game lovers. The price generated considerable discussion online.
The bowling club offered another glimpse into the side of SirRaheem that exists outside music, that is connected to business, lifestyle and entrepreneurship.
6. He says balancing music with his other commitments became difficult
This was the main reason behind his decision to leave active music. In his August 26 statement, SirRaheem said the demands of maintaining his music career alongside his other responsibilities had become increasingly difficult, particularly over the past year.
He said he had always believed in giving everything his best, but no longer felt he could give music the level of effort, patience and dedication it deserved.
Rather than continue releasing music without being able to devote enough time to it, he decided to formally close that chapter.
“So I owe it to my true fans, and to my colleagues in this industry a professional exit, I have decided to stop putting out new music,” he said.
7. He has not completely ruled out a return
Although SirRaheem has announced his professional exit from music, he has not closed the door permanently.
In fact, his statement leaves room for another chapter. He revealed that he had spent the past year working on what he considered his best material yet. He also disclosed that he has an unreleased album and suggested that it could still find its way to listeners in the future.
For him, music also remains therapeutic. That means August 26 may be the end of his active recording career for now, but it is not necessarily a permanent goodbye.
SirRaheem himself left that possibility open, ending his announcement with the reminder: “Never say never.”
