Call it delayed justice, police insensitivity, you may not be entirely wrong.

However, three months after alleged gruesome murder of Anambra nursing student, the operatives of the Anambra State Police Command seemed to have woken up from deep slumber and arrested arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the alleged murder.

Recall that the 23-year-old nursing student, Vivian Chilaka, was allegedly murdered in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state in June 2026.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the arrest, made on Friday, September 4, 2026, comes nearly three months after Chilaka was killed on June 14, in a case that generated widespread concern and outrage in the community.

Late Vivian Chilaka

According to the police authorities in the state, Ibekwe was arrested following what the Command described as “credible and actionable information” obtained during the course of its investigation.

The police further said that preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly scaled the fence of the building with the aid of a ladder, reportedly with the intention of sexually assaulting the deceased.

“A struggle allegedly ensued between the suspect and Chilaka, during which the suspect reportedly used a knife on stab her,” the command said.

The Command said Ibekwe allegedly admitted during interrogation that he stabbed the nursing student during the struggle, resulting in her death.

Her Landlord Cleared

Our findings showed that the latest breakthrough has also significantly altered the earlier thinking and direction of the investigation, with police exonerating the landlord who had previously been suspected in connection with the killing.

The Command said its investigation had cleared the landlord and urged members of the public to disregard earlier suspicions against him.

However, investigators say the case may not end with Chilaka’s murder.

Police disclosed that Ibekwe allegedly made revelations linking him to other similar incidents in the community.

Explaining further, the Command stressed that those claims remain under investigation and must be thoroughly corroborated before any conclusions can be reached.

“The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating his alleged involvement in other criminal incidents.”

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended residents of Alor for their cooperation and patience, particularly those who provided information that assisted investigators in making the breakthrough.

He assured the public that the Command would continue to pursue every credible lead and ensure that anyone found culpable faces justice in accordance with the law.

The police also reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes do not escape justice.
