Every season of Big Brother Naija comes with its own set of personalities, alliances, arguments and unexpected turns. For the housemates, staying in the house is not only about surviving nominations and public votes. There are also rules to follow, warnings to heed and consequences for crossing certain lines.
Over the years, some housemates have discovered just how quickly a promising journey can change. A strike can become a final warning, an argument can escalate beyond control, and an action that seemed minor can eventually bring a housemate’s time in Biggie’s house to an abrupt end.
For some, the decision came after a series of warnings. For others, one major incident was enough.
Nomy’s exit from the 2026 season has now added another chapter to that history.
Nomy’s journey ends after repeated defiance
On September 7, 2026, Nomy became the latest BBNaija housemate to have her participation privilege revoked.
Her exit did not come after a physical fight with another housemate like many. Instead, it followed what Big Brother described as repeated defiance of his instructions. The trouble had started earlier in the season.
On August 9, Big Brother issued Nomy her first strike after finding her guilty of repeatedly ignoring his instructions. He described the strike as her “last and final warning”, making it clear that another similar offence could have serious consequences.
That warning eventually became significant as during the week of her disqualification, Nomy was serving as a benchwarmer and had been instructed to wear a vest and remain on her designated bench. Big Brother later questioned her after she left both the bench and the vest behind.
During the Live Nominations on September 7, Big Brother addressed the matter and reminded Nomy that being in the house was a privilege. He subsequently revoked that privilege.
Nomy was given 30 minutes to gather her belongings and leave the house, bringing her BBNaija journey to an immediate end. Her exit means she joins a group of housemates whose BBNaija journeys ended not through the normal eviction process, but through disqualification.
And while Nomy is the latest name on that list, she is certainly not the first.
2017: Kemen became the first major disqualification
The first major disqualification in the modern BBNaija era came in 2017, during the second season, See Gobe.
On March 5, 2017, Ekemini “Kemen” Ekerette was disqualified after an incident involving fellow housemate TBoss. The incident happened while TBoss was asleep. Footage showed Kemen touching her inappropriately, leading Big Brother to remove him from the competition.
The decision immediately generated discussion among viewers, particularly around consent and the circumstances surrounding what happened. Unlike some later disqualifications that followed a series of strikes, Kemen’s exit was tied directly to the seriousness of the incident.
He left the house on Day 42 of the competition. At the time, his exit established something that would become increasingly familiar in BBNaija. It’s that although housemates enter the show hoping to stay until the finale, Big Brother can end a contestant’s journey before the public gets the opportunity to decide their fate.
2018: Khloe and K-Brule leave together
A year later, the show produced another unusual disqualification. On February 18, 2018, Season 3 Double Wahala housemates Khloe and K-Brule were disqualified together.
The pair were competing as a partnership, and their disqualification came after they accumulated three strikes.
K-Brule had already received a strike earlier in the competition after jumping from an upstairs level following a party and injuring himself. Because Khloe and K-Brule were paired together, the strike applied to both of them.
Their situation became worse after another party. Khloe and K-Brule got into an argument, during which Khloe verbally abused K-Brule and insulted his family. She received another strike.
K-Brule was subsequently involved in another confrontation and was restrained by fellow housemate Angel after threatening to attack Dee-One. That incident earned him another strike, taking the pair to the three-strike limit.
Big Brother then disqualified them from the show. Their exit remains notable because they became the first pair of housemates to leave the competition together through disqualification.
2019: Tacha’s fight with Mercy changes everything
By 2019, BBNaija had already shown that physical violence could have serious consequences. But Tacha’s disqualification became one of the most talked-about exits in the show’s history.
On September 27, 2019, during the Pepper Dem season, Tacha got into a heated confrontation with Mercy Eke. The disagreement began with the housemates being called to the lounge to read their task instructions. Mercy came out late after having her bath, which upset Tacha.
What began as an exchange of words quickly escalated. The confrontation became physical, with Tacha pushing and shoving Mercy and pulling her hair. Big Brother later reviewed the incident before announcing his decision.
Tacha was disqualified for breaking the rules on physical violence and intent to harm. Mercy was not disqualified. Instead, she received two strikes for provocation, failing to walk away from the volatile situation and non-physical violence.
The different punishments showed that Big Brother considered the actions of both women separately, even though they were involved in the same confrontation. Tacha’s exit came after 89 days in the house, bringing an abrupt end to one of the season’s biggest storylines.
2020: Erica’s final warning finally catches up with her
The following year brought another high-profile disqualification. On September 6, 2020, Erica Nlewedim was disqualified from Season 5, Lockdown.
Unlike Tacha, whose disqualification followed one major confrontation, Erica’s exit came after a series of rule violations and strikes. The situation reached breaking point following a disagreement involving Laycon.
Erica had become upset after Laycon confirmed comments about an earlier incident involving her. The argument later escalated, with Erica directing insults and threats at Laycon.
But that was not the only issue considered by Big Brother. She was also accused of disrespecting the Head of House position she occupied, goading other housemates and breaking other house rules.
After reviewing the situation, Big Brother issued Erica her third and final strike. She was therefore disqualified from the competition. Her exit came on Day 48 of the Lockdown season.
Like Tacha before her, Erica’s disqualification became one of the defining moments of her season, but it also showed another way a housemate could lose their place: not necessarily through one single action, but through repeated violations that eventually reach the limit.
2022: Beauty’s short stay ends in a dramatic night
It took two years before another housemate was disqualified. Then came Beauty Tukura. The former beauty queen entered Season 7, Level Up, with plenty of attention around her, but her BBNaija journey lasted only about two weeks.
On August 7, 2022, Beauty was disqualified after an argument with Groovy escalated during the Saturday night party. During the confrontation, Beauty threw her wig and glasses at Groovy, an action Big Brother considered a breach of the rules on physical violence.
The incident was particularly damaging because Beauty already had a strike. Big Brother issued her a double strike following the confrontation, taking her total to three strikes.
That meant there was no further warning or chance to remain in the game. Beauty was disqualified. Her exit became one of the fastest disqualifications involving a housemate who had actually entered the main BBNaija house.
2024: The unusual case of IU Prisa
Not every BBNaija disqualification has happened inside the house. Season 9 produced an unusual case involving a contestant known as KingPrisca, also reported as IU Prisa.
In July 2024, hours before the official start of the season, reports emerged that she had been disqualified before entering the house.
The reported reason was a breach of the show’s confidentiality rules after her selection as a housemate was revealed before the designated date. A message shared by the contestant said she had violated the rule against self-revelation and was asked to leave the premises
2025: Faith’s altercation with Sultana
The next disqualification came in 2025. On October 2, Faith Adewale was disqualified from Season 10 after a physical altercation with Sultana during a group task rehearsal.
The disagreement began during preparations for a skincare task. Tensions rose between the two housemates before the situation became physical.
Big Brother subsequently convened an emergency meeting in the lounge. After reviewing what happened, he found Faith guilty of physical violence and ordered him to leave the house immediately.
Unlike cases such as Erica’s and Khloe and K-Brule’s, Faith’s disqualification was not the result of accumulating three strikes over a long period. The physical confrontation itself led directly to his exit.
It happened just days before the end of the Season 10 competition, making the timing even more dramatic.
Disqualification Not Same As Eviction
That distinction is important when looking back at BBNaija’s history. An eviction normally follows the show’s voting process. A housemate is nominated, viewers vote and one or more contestants leave based on the result.
Disqualification works differently. It is a disciplinary decision made by Big Brother when a housemate is found to have committed an offence serious enough to warrant removal, or when accumulated strikes reach the limit.
That is why disqualified housemates often leave in the middle of the game, sometimes with little or no opportunity to say goodbye properly. It also explains why these exits tend to become some of the most memorable moments of a season.

Since Kemen’s disqualification in 2017, BBNaija has seen housemates lose their places in very different circumstances.
There have been cases involving inappropriate conduct, repeated rule violations, verbal abuse, aggression, physical violence and refusal to follow Big Brother’s instructions.
Some received several warnings before reaching the point of no return. Others crossed a line that led to an immediate decision.
The circumstances have changed, but the lesson has remained the same: entering the BBNaija house comes with rules, and Big Brother ultimately decides when a housemate has gone too far.
Nomy is now the latest name attached to that history. From Kemen in 2017 to Nomy in 2026, the disqualification list has grown into a record of some of the most dramatic moments BBNaija has produced.
