A yet-to-be-identified vehicle inspection officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck opposite Mega Primary School on Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
A video shared on Friday by Crest FM, an Akure-based radio station, showed residents shouting and gathering at the scene following the incident.
Eyewitnesses said the officer had attempted to intercept the truck while it was in the fast lane but was unable to stop it before the collision.
The officer was reportedly trapped beneath the trailer after the truck struck him, triggering distress among residents at the scene.
The footage also showed some of the officer’s colleagues appearing panicked as residents gathered around the truck, with people heard shouting in the background.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what prompted the officer to attempt to stop the truck, were not immediately clear.
