Angry students of the Isa Musthapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday barricaded the Lafia-Jos Road protesting the closure of the school’s registration portal.

The students who protested for hours were said to have damaged some property, including part of the administrative block, streetlights, vehicles belonging to staff, the Information and Communication Centre security house, among others.

The angry students were later chased away by a combined team of the Nigerian Army and Police.

According to PUNCH reporter, who visited the scene of the protest in Lafia, the rector of the institution, Mrs. Justina Kotso narrowly escaped being attacked by the students.

Confirming reason for the protest, the National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, Mr Alkamis Ladan, said the protest was caused by the closure of the registration portal.

Ladan said students are to commence examination on Monday, March 15, 2021 and those who are yet to pay for their registration are being compelled to pay N10,000 for late registration before they can access the portal.

He appealed to the school management to re-open the portal, in the interest of peace and development on the institution.

The rector Mrs. Justina Kotso, said the management was meeting with officials of the Ministry of Education to decide on the next line of action.
