Two commercial motorcyclists have lost their lives in an accident that occurred along Ikare-Arigidi road in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that the accident was caused by the reckless overtaking and excessive speeding of one of the motorcyclists.

According to sources who were at the scene of the accident, one of the motorcyclists coming from the Ikare end of the road wrongly overtook a vehicle before ramming into another motorcycle from the Arigidi axis.

The okada rider was also said to be on high speed when he suddenly overtook the vehicle identified as a school bus.

One of the eyewitnesses said, “the school bus was going when one motorcyclist who made a wrong decision overtook it without looking ahead clearly.

“It was when he made the wrong move he had a head on collision with another motorcyclist coming from Agbaluku- Arigidi axis.

“The accident led to their death instantly.”

The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ikare-Akoko, Mr Ade Alabi, who confirmed the accident decried the rate at which motorcyclists ignore the usage of helmets.

Alabi disclosed that most deaths recorded as a result of okada accidents were due to head injuries.
